Methodist College Students Spend Time Learning and Serving

Methodist College Students in the Community

The Fall 2018 semester has brought many opportunities for Methodist College students to integrate in our communities through volunteering,  service learning, and community-based clinical opportunities.

N371 Pediatrics

Students in N371 Pediatrics taught by Lisa Gillespie went to the South Side Community Center in Peoria for a clinical experience and conducted screenings for preschoolers, helped get breakfast ready for the mothers and children, and made baskets with healthy and preschool items which were raffled off during the four days the students were there.

N421 Population Health Nursing

Students in the N421 Population Health Nursing participated in a clinical opportunity with instructor Laura Sandoval  in a Full-Scale Exercise lead by the McLean County Health Department, the McLean County Emergency Management Agency, and Illinois State University to jointly test the process for providing medication to all McLean County residents during a public health emergency.

The students participated by providing triage intake and dispensing screening.

Volunteering at Heartis Village Senior Living

On Friday afternoons during the months of October and November, students will partner with the Methodist College Academic Support Collaborative to volunteer at Heartis Village Senior Living in north Peoria. Recently students and the Methodist College staff spent a few hours washing windows, putting together printed material, and making crafts.

Methodist College is committed to civic engagement and we are proud of the many ways in which our faculty, staff, and students work hard to better the communities in which we live and work.
