Medical Assisting is an allied health profession whose practitioners function as members of the health care delivery team to perform administrative and clinical procedures. With their unique versatility, Medical Assistants are proving to be the allied health professional of choice for this decade and beyond. In fact, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, medical assisting continues to be projected as one of the fastest growing occupations. In addition, the Greater Peoria Economic Development Council’s (GPEDC) 2017-2018 Talent Forecast estimates more than 149 Certified Medical Assistants will be hired within the Peoria region in the next two years. The GPEDC Talent Forecast ranks Certified Medical Assistant as tenth in the list of top jobs in the community and fifth within the Education and Health Services category.

“Medical Assisting is a dynamic career that prepares professionals to work in both clinical and administrative roles. It is an in-demand career that provides the best of both worlds within the healthcare industry,” said Dr. Eileen Setti, Chair of Career Pathways and Continuing Education.
