Methodist College Offers New Bachelor's and Master's Degree

Methodist College Rolls Out New Nursing Bachelor's and Master's Degree Options

Methodist College is rolling out two new nursing degree options in time for the fall 2019 semester. A new accelerated bachelor’s degree in nursing and a new master’s degree in nursing provide pathways for high achieving students to reach their goal to become a registered nurse.

The new Bachelor of Science in Nursing – Accelerated Prelicensure is for transfer students who have completed all the prerequisite general education courses. With full-time enrollment, students can complete the program in five semesters and be prepared to sit for the national nursing licensure exam. To be eligible for the program, students must have a 3.0 or greater grade point average on previous college coursework and have successfully completed the 45 credits of prerequisite courses.

The new Master of Science in Nursing – Prelicensure is an innovative graduate program that allows individuals with an earned bachelor’s degree in a non-nursing subject to earn a graduate degree and be eligible to sit for the nursing licensing exam. The program’s coursework is offered online with additional classroom and clinical experiences offered during the weekend on the Methodist College campus. Candidates for the program must have a 3.0 or greater grade point average in their previous bachelor’s degree and must have the prerequisite science courses completed with a grade of B or better.

“As the demand for nurses continues to be strong, Methodist College is committed to developing innovative programs that not only help individuals to achieve their personal goals to work as nurses, but also meet the needs of our healthcare partners to higher qualified and experienced talent,” said Dr. James Dire, Methodist College Chancellor.

The Master of Science in Nursing – Prelicensure program was developed as a result of the success of the college’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing – Second Degree program which is also for individuals with non-nursing bachelor’s degree who would like to earn a second bachelor’s degree in nursing. Methodist College has seen continued demand for the program with a 40% increase in enrollment in fall 2018 over fall 2017.

“Students come to Methodist College at different stages of life -- directly from high school, as college transfer students, or looking for a change in career,” said Dr. Deborah Garrison, provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs. “These new programs offer additional opportunities for those seeking a rewarding career in nursing.”

Methodist College offers a traditional bachelor’s degree in nursing, an RN-BSN degree for diploma or community college trained registered nurses, and three options to obtain a master’s degree in nursing – generalist, nurse educator, and nurse leader executive. In addition, the college offers bachelor’s degrees in health science, healthcare administration and social work, and certificate programs in gerontology, medical assistant and nursing assistant.

The college is hosting a Campus Visit Day on Saturday, March 23 for anyone wanting to learn more about Methodist College and its programs. Registration for the event is available HERE.
