Four-Year Degree Program Information
The Four-Year Degree Track is designed for anyone who is interested in earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree.
The Four-Year Bachelor of Science in nursing degree is a traditional college degree. The student enrolls in Methodist College in this program and takes both the general education and nursing courses required for the degree. All course work, with the exception of science labs, will be taken at Methodist College. Science lab courses will be held at Illinois Central College.
Initially upon entry as a freshman the student will take more general education courses than nursing courses; however, he/she will also take nursing courses. As the student progresses to the junior level of study, he/she will be taking more nursing courses than general education courses. Upon completion of the required 122 credits, the Bachelor of Science in nursing degree will be awarded and the graduate will then be qualified to sit for the state licensing exam known as the NCLEX. Upon passing this exam, the graduate will be licensed as a Registered Nurse or "RN".
Students may enter this program directly from high school or as transfer students. Students with college credits will have those credits evaluated as to their transferability into the Methodist College BSN program. The student will then be placed in the program accordingly. While this BSN program, as with other four year college and university undergraduate degrees, requires four years to complete, it can be completed in three years if the student attends summer semesters. This program is also designed, so it may be attended on a part-time basis.
Students entering or transferring into this track will be able to attend full time or part time:
If attending Full time - the degree can be completed in eight consecutive semesters, including summers.
If attending Part time - the student may take up to seven years to complete the degree.
