Workshop for caregivers of individuals with Alzheimer's or dementia.

2017 Woodford County Caregiver Workshop - June 28

Providing care to a loved one with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia can be stressful for the caregiver, whether that care is provided at home or the individual is in a skilled nursing facility. To that end, the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, the Central Illinois Agency on Aging and the Gerontology programs at Methodist College and Eureka College are hosting a workshop for caregivers in Woodford County.

The half-day event, titled “Caring for the Caregiver,” will be at the Cerf Center at Eureka College on Wednesday, June 28 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The focus of the workshop is Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction. Marjorie Getz, a professor in the Gerontology program at Methodist College and Deb Disney, Counselor at Methodist College will be the presenters. Their presentations will include information on helping caregivers reduce aspects of stress that may accompany providing care to loved ones.

The workshop will also provide opportunities for participants to interact with local professional organizations that provide resources for caregivers.

The conference is free for participants and brunch will be provided. The registration deadline is June 21. Interested individuals from Woodford County can register by email at mgetz@methodistcol.edur or by calling (309) 671-2907.
