Methodist College to Host Sterling Middle School Health Career Expo

Methodist College to Host Sterling Middle School Health Career Expo

Sixth grade students from Sterling Middle School will be able to learn first-hand about a variety of healthcare and human services career opportunities at an interactive career expo at Methodist College. The event will take place on April 13, from 9:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.

The career expo will feature ten interactive stations with representatives from Methodist College and community organizations. Exhibits will include presentations about the specific career and education required for that particular career. Students will have an interactive and hand-on experience with time for questions and answers at each station. Hand-on activities include time in one of Methodist College’s simulation centers.

The event will also include a presentation about careers and life after high school.  A panel of Methodist College students will present to the sixth graders. Sterling Middle School students will also receive a tour of the Methodist College campus.

Healthcare careers represented at the expo include nurse, medical assistant, nursing assistant (CNA), paramedic, pharmacist, Coroner, social worker, speech pathology, medical imaging, and medical lab. Participants and partners in the event include UnityPoint Health, Advanced Medical Transport, Peoria County Coroner’s Office, and Easterseals.

Methodist College “adopted” Sterling Middle School through Peoria District 150 Foundation’s Adopt-A-School program. Methodist College employees have volunteered and donated items to assist with school and PTO activities.

The event will be held at Methodist College located at 7600 N. Academic Drive in Peoria.
