Methodist College to Host Innovative Education Open House

Methodist College is hosting an open house to showcase the addition of state-of-the-art tools and technology that will be used in the education of future healthcare and human services professionals.

The event will be held on Thursday, May 23 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the college’s campus at 7600 N. Academic Drive.

On display will be a lifelike childbirth simulator by Gaumard®, known as Victoria, which can simulate a full range of obstetrical events to facilitate teamwork and deepen critical thinking skills in learners of all levels. A part of the college’s simulation education program, the simulator also features newborn manikins and a full-term baby simulator that provides participants with realistic visual and tactile experiences. Funding for the birthing simulator was provided by a grant from the UnityPoint Health Methodist | Proctor Foundation.

Methodist College students in a variety of science, nursing, and healthcare courses will now have their learning enhanced with the addition of a virtual dissection table by Anatomage. The table is a fully segmented real human 3D anatomy system where users can visualize anatomy exactly as they would on a fresh cadaver. Individual structures are reconstructed in 3D, resulting in real accurate anatomy, dissectible in 3D. Funding for the Anatomage table was provided by a grant from the Health Resources & Services Administration of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

The open house also will showcase the Mobile Outreach Learning Laboratory for Integrative Education or MOLLIE. Formerly a mobile mammography vehicle, it has been retrofitted to accommodate community learning opportunities for students in the college’s nursing, healthcare, and social work programs. The vehicle was donated to the college by the Methodist Service League with additional funding provided by the Telligen Community Initiative and the UnityPoint Health Methodist | Proctor Foundation.
