Methodist College to Launch Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) Program

Building on 125-years of bringing exceptional nursing education to Greater Peoria, Methodist College is proud to announce the development of a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) program, with plans for a 2027 start.

CRNAs are highly trained clinicians who specialize in administering anesthesia and providing care before, during and after various types of medical procedures. Particularly important in rural and underserved areas where access to anesthesiologists may be limited, CRNAs ensure patients receive vital care safely and with minimal discomfort.

The CRNA program at Methodist College will provide eligible students with a hands-on, exemplary educational experience featuring seasoned instructors, modern lecture rooms, study spaces and cutting-edge simulation labs on the Peoria campus. Online applications are expected to open in 2026.

“CRNAs are crucial to supporting robust healthcare services and it is part of our mission to foster more opportunities to cultivate and support providers to increase their specialties and care for more patients,” Kayla Banks, PhD, RN Chancellor of Methodist College, said. “This program will create an opportunity for skilled, passionate caregivers to deliver exceptional care for the place they call home and result in a higher-level care available for the people in our community.”

To apply, students will need to complete a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree, a minimum of two years’ work experience in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU), as well as other additional prerequisites. Interested individuals working toward that eligibility are encouraged to take advantage of Methodist College’s Academic Investment Program, which fully covers tuition, book expenses and other fees for qualified students who commit to working at Carle Health for a minimum of two years after graduation and licensure.

Methodist College is also currently seeking a Program Director to help lead the upcoming CRNA program. This program expansion is a testament to Methodist College’s commitment to being a trusted resource for students who share a passion for healthcare.
