Cheyenne Park, RN, is a Methodist College alum and Registered Nurse in the Progressive Care Unit at Carle BroMenn Medical Center. Inspired by family members who worked in healthcare before her and shaped by the compassion shown to her loved ones at the bedside, Cheyenne is dedicated to caring for every patient as she would her own family.
Q: What experiences or influences led you to choose nursing as your profession?
A: Ever since I was young, I knew I had a passion for and a desire to be a part of the medical field. However, I did not know nursing was the way I wanted to go until I was older. My grandma and sister-in-law, being proud and wonderful nurses, were a big influence.
Q: In what ways did nursing school and your career help you discover your sense of purpose?
A: Nursing school opened my eyes to the many career avenues that were possible as a nurse. If one section of nursing doesn’t allow you to feel fulfilled, there are many other possibilities. Through hands-on patient care at the bedside, I have rediscovered my purpose.
Q: How have your personal and professional experiences shaped the way you care for patients today?
A: A few of my family members have required medical care within the last few years. This serves as a reminder that all of my patients have family members who worry for them the same way I worry for my family. I try to care for my patients the way I would want someone to care for my family.
Q: What advice or encouragement would you offer to students who are facing obstacles on their journey to becoming a nurse?
A: Every instructor or nurse that you are assigned to for clinical started right where you are. A nurse that you look up to went through the same stress and feelings of doubt and persevered - you can too!
