What To Expect From FAFSA 2024-25

What To Expect From the Simplified FAFSA 2024-2025

Due to the passing of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) Simplification Act, students can expect changes and improvements to the FAFSA during the 2024-2025 aid year. The redesigned FASFA form is expanding eligibility for federal student aid, and offers a streamlined user experience for students and their families.

Primary Changes to the 2024-2025 FAFSA

  • The 2024-2025 FASFA will be available later than usual, and will open December 31, 2023.
  • The FAFSA application process has been simplified, with fewer required questions.
  • The FAFSA has added new terminology. Students will be asked to identify their "contributors." A contributor refers to anyone who is required to provide information on the student's FAFSA form.
  • Eligibility for federal financial aid will be expanded.

FAFSA Completion Date

While the FAFSA typically opens in October, the 2024-2025 FAFSA will not be available until December 31, 2023. This change is temporary, after the 2023-2025 aid year the FAFSA will be available in October as usual.

  • Due to this change, students can expect a high volume of traffic on the new FAFSA application beginning December 31,2023. The Methodist College Office of Financial Aid would like to remind students that they are in no danger of losing federal or state aid if they do not fill out the form immediately. The FAFSA will be accepted throughout the entire year.
  • To ensure our students receive their aid on time, our Financial Aid office has set priority deadlines for FAFSA completion:
    • Methodist College students seeking aid for the Summer 2024 semester should have their FASFA submitted no later than April 1, 2024.
    • Methodist College students seeking aid for the Fall 2024 semester should have their FAFSA submitted no later than June 30, 2024.
  • Following your submission of the application, you should receive a response from FAFSA within 2-3 days. If you do not receive a response, please follow up with FAFSA via the help center.

Where To Find Help With the FAFSA Form

There is a possibility of students experiencing issues or having questions while filling out the updated FAFSA form. (Especially if the application is being filled out within the first few weeks of the new form being live.) If there is a problem, please report to FAFSA using their help center. This is your best resource for help, and we ask for your patience while the issue is resolved by FAFSA.

While the Methodist College Office of Financial Aid is here to support our students, questions or issues with the FAFSA are outside of our ability to resolve. As a reminder, our office will be closed December 30 - January 2.
