Methodist College Recognizes UnityPoint Health Medical Assistants
October 19, 2020
Methodist College is celebrating Medical Assistants Recognition Week, October 19 – 23, with Medical Assistants Recognition Day on October 21. Medical Assistants Recognition Week is designated by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) and in collaboration with the National Colorectal Cancer Roundtable (NCCRT). Methodist College will recognize medical assistants throughout UnityPoint Health in the Peoria, Illinois region. In celebration of Medical Assistants Recognition Week, Methodist College representatives will provide tokens of appreciation to all Medical Assistants at regional UnityPoint Health locations.
This year’s recognition week theme, “Support Screening, Save Lives” reflects how medical assistants are in a position to reduce barriers to preventive screenings. Medical assistants can play a vital role in preventive screening, and this year the AAMA and NCCRT hope to empower medical assistants to fight colorectal cancer.
Medical Assisting is an allied health profession whose practitioners function as members of the health care delivery team and perform administrative and clinical procedures. With their unique versatility, medical assistants are proving to be the allied health professional of choice for this decade and beyond. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, medical assisting continues to be projected as one of the fastest growing occupations.
Methodist College offers a Medical Assistant program that prepares students to take a national certification examination. The curriculum is designed to create a pathway to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Management, or Bachelor of Social Work degree, as some courses are transferable. The program can be completed in only 18 months, if enrolled full-time. Some courses may be offered in the evening and online, making it convenient for all students.
The Methodist College website provides additional information about the medical assistant program.
