Methodist College and PAWAC Present Life Behind the Wall

Methodist College along with the Peoria Area World Affairs Council (PAWAC) will present Life Behind the Wall: 30 Years from the Fall of Communism on Thursday, November 14. The presentation will be from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. at Methodist College, 7600 N. Academic Dr. in Peoria.

The event features presentations by Dr. Octavian Gabor, Professor of Philosophy at Methodist College and Angela Weck, Global Education Coordinator at Bradley University. The evening will be moderated by John Morris, President and CEO of the Peoria Riverfront Museum. The event is free and open to the public, no registration is required. Light refreshments will be served.

The event coincides with the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall this November. The presentation will provide a history of the fall of the Berlin Wall and discuss life under communist rule. A video with historical content of the time period will play prior to the event. After the presentation Mr. Morris will moderate questions from the audience and continued conversation on the topic.

Dr. Octavian Gabor states, “The event will be an occasion to celebrate 30 years from the fall of communism in Eastern Europe. In my presentation, I will discuss how communism destroys individuals by breaking connections people can have with each other. As a consequence, the healing of a society after the experience of a communist totalitarian system requires the refashioning of relationships.”

The event is hosted by Methodist College’s Co-Circular committee in partnership with PAWAC. The Methodist College Co-Circular committee hosts events throughout the year for the campus community and surrounding community. Early next year, the group will host local artists to discuss artwork displayed around Methodist College.
