Methodist College Library Celebrates National Library Week 2021

Methodist College Library Celebrates National Library Week April 4 - 10

National Library Week is a time to celebrate libraries and library staff. The National Library Week theme is “Welcome to Your Library” and is celebrated April 4 – 10. National Library Week is sponsored by the American Library Association. Since 1958, the week has been celebrated in libraries across the country. Natalie Portman serves as honorary chair of National Library Week 2021.

The Methodist College Library is located by the Student Commons on campus, but is accessible anywhere online. Using the Methodist College Library Virtual Services users can access LibGuides, databases, and checkout eBooks. Library staff can assist students with all research needs including research questions, consultations, interlibrary loan. Faculty can visit the library for consultations, interlibrary loans, and instruction. The library has access to 69 databases and 387,176 ejournal titles! Through interlibrary loan, the Methodist College library can find almost any book or article ever published. Help on how to start the research process is available on the How Do I…? page on the library website.

Is the library only for research? No. The library has over 5,000 books on shelves for all academic disciplines, but users can also find books for enjoyment reading. The Methodist College Library even has access to the eReads Illinois collection, a great source for enjoyment reading material.

The library provides students with a quiet place to study. There are multiple study rooms available and room reservations can be made through the library or on the library website. Study rooms are open but with limited capacity.

The Methodist College Library also received an Illinois History Digital Imaging Grant from the State Library and Illinois Secretary of State. This multi-year project helped Methodist College digitally preserve history. Visit the Illinois Digital Archives to view the digital history collection.

The Methodist College Library can do or find almost anything to help a student succeed. The American Library Association states there are an estimated 116,867 libraries in the United States, and one of the best is at Methodist College! The Methodist College library is a great resource, and library staff has tailored offerings for students' healthcare and human services study needs. Thank you to the Michelle Nielsen Ott, Director Library Services, and the library student workers for all they do every day to help students succeed. Visit the library or send an email to show your appreciation during National Library Week!
