Mission of Academic Advising
The mission of the advising program at Methodist College is to empower students to become self-directed learners and decision makers who will develop and implement sound educational and career plans consistent with their personal values, goals and career aspirations in healthcare. Collaborative relationships between students, advisors and faculty mentors will assist students in the successful transition to college life and develop students' appreciation for the academic community to which they belong.
The advising office at Methodist College provides services to current and prospective students and faculty. There is two full-time Academic Advisors who are the initial point of contact once a student has made their deposit and accepted their invitation of acceptance. If the students’ program of study is Social Work, they are referred to the Director of their respective program. The Academic Advisor/Program Director then meets with the incoming student, one-on-one, to create a schedule that best serves that individual student, taking into consideration work, family, and life obligations. The student is then walked through the registration process and is taught how to access and read their academic audit. The Academic Advisor also works with the students to develop their degree program plans.
